Resource federation is built into the architecture.
The Cloudistics composable cloud platform utilizes an application-first approach to managing resources. Storage, compute and network resources are the foundation for running an application that serves the business or other primary functions that need to be achieved. Based on this principle, the Cloudistics platform utilizes an architecture that federates resources together and makes them composable so they can be allocated to applications based on demand.
Network resources within the system are virtualized and managed as a pool of resources that is then carved up based on network and security requirements. You can provide as much or as little isolation as needed from a network, connectivity, and throughput perspective. To scale the system, the attachment of additional resources places them under the federated management and allows them to be distributed for use where necessary based on push-button deployment, management and ‘plug-in scale out’.
For storage, the same principles apply. Cloudistics starts with a pool of logical capacity made up of storage blocks. Through the UI, storage can be carved up and provisioned to VMs. To add capacity, simply plug in the resources and place them into a logical global pool so that the new capacity can be assigned to workloads.
Finally, compute resources are in a federated pool and are managed for high availability and resource allocation in the same federated manner. By removing the requirement for clusters, hardware resources are easier to manage for things like high availability—and because the resources pool is not constrained by clusters, it is truly federated and open.
Federation Built into the Architecture
Architectural expertise is not required to administer the system or optimize it for performance. Simply allocate the necessary resources and continue to add or move them around as needed.
